The MaxKVM software and firmware are available online
from Charlotte’s Web Networks Web site (http://www.cwnt.com/downloads/server-install/).

caution |
It is imperative to follow the upgrade instructions, to avoid damage to the MK-348 unit. |
note |
In case a software upgrade is bundled with a firmware upgrade, the upgrade process should be powered down manually and the MaxKVM switch should be restarted (i.e. power cycle). Use special caution and follow the messages on screen. |
to upgrade the MaxKVM software: |
1 Click Upgrade in the main window toolbar. 2 In the dialog that opens, choose to upgrade the MaxKVM system and press OK. |
The Upgrade Selection Window

note |
In cluster, all the cluster members (CM and CEs) are upgraded. CE switches with a different SW/FW version leave the cluster due to version mismatch. In case a CE fails to upgrade, it would be marked as “version mismatch” and become a standalone machine. |
A file navigation window opens. Select the upgrade image file (tar extension) and click Open. |
The
Upgrade Window

For every KVM switch in the cluster, the system now unpacks the tar file, validates its integrity, and determines which components require the upgrade. In case only software upgrade is needed, the upgrade process completion is announced by a dialog requesting your permission to reboot, to start using the new version, as shown in the following figure. |
The Software Upgrade Finished

In case a software upgrade is bundled with a firmware upgrade, the upgrade process should be powered down manually and the MaxKVM switch should be restarted. Use special caution and follow the messages on screen.
Close the browser, or the new client will not get loaded. |
caution |
Turning the power off during a firmware upgrade may cause the MK-348 unit to stop working and require sending it back to the factory for repair. |
The MaxKVM image file also includes the firmware for server adapters which is used in
case the adapters require a firmware update.
If the MaxKVM
switch finds an adapter that needs a firmware update, it marks its server port
by a yellow triangle, as shown in the following figure. To update the adapter,
click that triangle.
Adapters Marked for Upgrade

If you wish to run
a firmware update for all server adapters on several MaxKVM switches, click the
Upgrade button from the main toolbar, and then select MaxKVM Port Adapters, as show in the following figure.

note |
During
adapter firmware update, you may continue to use the MaxKVM switch as usual,
and even maintain connection to a server during the upgrade process of its
adapter (“background update”). The firmware update process advances without
any affect on your work. |
